We have a new book author on the core faculty

Dr. Navalta has published a treatment manual for mental health counselors and other behavioral healthcare providers, Trauma-Informed Parenting Program: TIPs for Clinicians to Train Parents of Children Impacted by Trauma and Adversity.  As described in the book’s Foreword written by Dr. Ernestine Briggs-King (Associate Professor in Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Duke University School of Medicine), “Dr. Navalta’s book has the potential to assist clinicians in their quest to help youth and their families live meaningful lives that are free of trauma-related symptoms and distress.”  The manual is available through Wiley and other book sellers.  Congratulations, Dr. Navalta! (September 2022)

The Boston Globe profiled, Naomi Szanto (MHCBM ’21) and her initiative to meet and profile the people who make up the fabric of Boston: Article: Boston Commoners on her Instagram: Insta: Boston Commoners. She is building connections and community through this initiative in recognizing that everyone has a special story to share. Her journey was inspired by Professor Craigen’s open-water swimming adventures. What other wonderful things are people doing that are under-appreciated? Faculty member Laurie Craigen, PhD was profiled in The Boston Globe for her strong and mighty open-water swimming at Boston Light. See website header for photo. It’s an 8-mile swim in Boston Harbor, and no one goes it alone.

I lived my whole life in fear, and I found a group that, instead of moving away from fear, moved toward it,” Craigen says. “It has been so good for me emotionally and physically to find this community to push us to be the best versions of ourselves. I’m so grateful.

We are proud of her for conquering the jellyfish (and sharks). Congrats, Dr. Craigen!
