Licensure & Alumni Resources
Licensure
The Mental Health Counseling and Behavioral Medicine Program is designed to meet the educational requirements for licensure as a mental health counselor (LMHC) in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as granted by the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Allied Mental Health and Human Services Professions. Please review the program’s licensing disclosure webpage for information on licensing in other U.S. states and territories. Pay particular attention to the requirements and determinations made for locations in which you may wish to seek employment upon completion of the program. Please submit any questions to mhcbm@bu.edu regarding the information on the licensing disclosure page.
We strongly recommend ALL potential applicants to review this information closely, as it could impact your future opportunities for licensure to practice depending on what state(s) you intend to practice in. For specific questions about state licensure and information regarding whether our program meets various states’ academic or pre-master’s training requirements, please reference the Licensing Disclosure page.
We work closely with students to try and ensure that they meet requirements for licensure in states all across the country. Depending on what state you intend to practice in, courses that are identified as electives may be required to meet academic requirements. This information can also be found in the Licensing Disclosure page.
