Dr. Rachel Levy-Bell Named New MHCBM Director

Dr. Rachel Levy-Bell will become the new Director for the nationally accredited Mental Health Counseling and Behavioral Medicine program, effective July 1, 2021. Dr. Levy-Bell earned a PsyD degree from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, interned at Cook County Hospital (Chicago) and Temple University Hospital (Philadelphia), followed by a post-doctoral appointment at BMC in the Psychiatry department.

As a licensed psychologist and educator, she has been MHCBM faculty since 2002, rising to Associate Program Director in 2017 while emphasizing development of clinical training models and culturally competent supervision needs of students, psychiatry residents and social workers at BMC. She has long-standing interests in crisis intervention strategies and health outcomes disparities. Dr. Levy-Bell also has served in leadership roles on multiple committees and task forces at the university and national levels. She is a dedicated clinical psychologist, educator, innovator of clinical training, mentor and advocate for our students and the counseling profession.

Dr. Levy-Bell takes on this role from Dr. Steven Brady, the Founding Director of the MHCBM program and its leader for 20 years. Under his guidance the program has grown to national prominence with a deep bench of talented faculty, a diverse student population and 100% pass rates for required prelicensure exams. He has been a guiding light for many in GMS and across the university for decades. Dr. Brady is PI on a training grant addressing substance abuse, so fortunately he will continue with the program as a researcher, educator, mentor and advisor while he pursues clinical and consultation work.

We very much look forward to working with Rachel as she implements her vision for the next phase of the MHCBM program.  Please join GMS in congratulating Dr. Levy-Bell as she takes on this new position.
