The Oral Health Sciences peer-mentoring program, DentMent, invited Elias Hilaire to speak with the current cohort about work-life balance on Thursday, March 16. Hilaire is a second-year student at Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine. Originally from Baltimore, MD, Hilaire graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park. He then completed a post-baccalaureate program through GeorgeSquared, a collaborative pre-health program between George Mason University and Georgetown University. Medical Campus Celebrates 33rd Annual Art Days Showcase
The Boston University Medical Campus celebrated its 33rd annual Art Days event with a two-day gallery featuring artwork from campus students, faculty and staff from Feb. 21-22 in Hiebert Lounge. Art Days was started by Dean Emeritus Aram Chobanian to foster the support and growth of the creative arts at BUMC. The exhibition is mounted by the Creative Arts Society and facilitated by Associate Professor of Biochemistry Keith Tornheim, PhD. Boston University to Open New LGBTQIA+ Student Resource Center
A joint memo from Jean Morrison, University provost and chief academic officer, and President Robert A. Brown announced a brand-new LGBTQIA+ Student Resource Center at Boston University, expected to open at the beginning of the 2023-2024 academic year. The center will be located on the second floor of 808 Commonwealth Avenue, on the Charles River Campus, near existing spaces like the Howard Thurman Center for Common Ground and the LGBTQIA+ Center for Faculty & Staff. BU Finds CTE in Nearly 92 Percent of Ex-NFL Players Studied The Brink; February 7, 2023 The latest report by the Boston University CTE Center has diagnosed 345 former NFL players with chronic traumatic encephalopathy, out of 376 former players who were studied, a rate of 91.7 percent. The Community Catalyst Center welcomed Assistant Dean for Diversity & Inclusion Shoumita Dasgupta, PhD, to present on “Histories and Futures of Genetic Essentialism: On Bias, Its Origins, and Its Harms” during a Feb. 1 seminar held in the Instructional Building. Dr. Dasgupta’s seminar explored the history of eugenics and discussed its echoes of oppression in the current and future practice of genomic science and medicine. By integrating historical archives, scientific data, present-day case studies and real-world examples, the seminar demonstrated the pervasive influence of eugenics on 21st century science and offered several recommendations for challenging genetic essentialism and promoting the ethical practice...
