History

Boston Medical Center has a long and proud history of taking care of the underserved of Boston. The mission of Boston Medical Center (BMC) is unique and clear: to provide exceptional care, without exception to anyone who walks through our doors.

Boston Medical Center was created by the formal merger of Boston City Hospital and Boston University Medical Center Hospital in 1996.  BMC remains one of the rare, successful public-private hospital mergers in the United States and is the largest safety net hospital in New England.  The hospital is the primary teaching affiliate for Boston University School of Medicine and we have 42 ACGME-accredited specialty and sub-specialty programs.

Since the Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program was originally accredited in 1953, it has had a strong reputation for fulfilling the institutional mission while providing strong clinical training for decades of program graduates.

Our department has a long tradition of high quality training with excellence in all general and specialty areas of Obstetrics and Gynecology.  We have many experienced and talented faculty who believe in providing outstanding care to all regardless of her social or economic circumstances.  This passion is the foundation to a true commitment to service and is what makes BMC such a special place to train.
