One year vs two year program. This is the most commonly asked question, so let me explain…..

The one year and two year programs are the same in terms of curriculum and cost. You do not apply to one or the other program and would not need to decide until May, 2018.

Key facts: The one year program is primarily designed for students who apply to medical school before the program (more on this next time) and are accepted for Fall, 2018 entry. If you do not apply to medical school before the program, there is no advantage to completing the program in one year.

– There is no coursework in the second year

-You do not need to remain in Boston for the second year

-Completing the program in two years allows you to gain valuable research experience for your thesis project- in Boston or elsewhere.  If you complete the program in one year, your project would involve a literature-based thesis.

-For the purposes of student loan repayment, you are considered a full-time student in the second year

Next week’s Office Hours: Should I apply to medical school before starting the program?

Please send your questions to mams@bu.edu.

Until next Monday,
