Aaron W. Young, PhD, is an assistant professor in the Department of Pharmacology, Physiology & Biophysics at the Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. He is also the assistant director of the Graduate Medical Sciences Masters in Oral Health Sciences program. Dr. Young has played a significant role in curriculum design and course directorship across several programs within the medical school. Graduate Medical Sciences welcomed Lauren Celano, CEO of Propel Careers, to campus on Wednesday, Feb. 21 for "Looking Your Best on Paper: Building a Resumé for Industry and a CV for Academia." The event was sponsored by the Community Catalyst Center (C3) and Boston University Broadening Experiences in Scientific Training (BU's BEST). GMS Student Spotlight: Maxine Slattery (BMFS ’24)
Maxine Slattery is a second-year student in the Graduate Medical Sciences (GMS) Biomedical Forensic Sciences master’s program with an eye for forensic biology, crime scene investigation and advocacy. Slattery was born in San Diego and spent her childhood summers between Boston and Cape Cod, where her parents grew up and met. Her older siblings moved to Boston and New York when she was a teenager. For Slattery, who already felt rooted on the East Coast, following suit felt like a natural choice. GMS Celebrates Black History Month 2024
Graduate Medical Sciences is proud to celebrate Black History Month! This year marks the 48th annual Black History Month since it was federally recognized in 1976. The 2024 theme of Black History Month, “African Americans and the Arts,” highlights “the art of resistance,” and “the artists who used their crafts to uplift the race, speak truth to power and inspire a nation,” according to the National Museum of African American History and Culture. A Welcome Back to Campus with Coffee, Cookies and a BU Raffle
Students had a chance to unwind after their first full week of classes at the "Welcome Back Relax & Chat & Gear Raffle" on Friday, Jan. 26. Hosted in L-311 by Graduate Medical Sciences Student Affairs, the event included a coffee and tea station, cookies from Chequers and a raffle of popular Boston University swag items. Raffle items included BU sweatshirts and zip-ups, two types of BU tumblers, and BU blankets. Spring 2024 Affinity Group Expo Kicks off the New Semester
The Community Catalyst Center kicked off its Spring 2024 programming with an Affinity Group Expo, hosted in the L-building lobby on Wednesday, Jan. 24. The expo gave students a chance to meet with several C3 peer mentors, learn more about C3's resources and seven affinity groups, sign up for upcoming events and pick up some swag and a snack. Fifty guests attended a Winter Refuel & Cultural Exchange Event hosted by the Minority and International Scientists Organization (MISO) on Thursday, Dec. 7.
