Where to See Holiday Lights in Boston
Though many of Boston’s popular holiday festivities have been put on pause this year, there is still one tradition that has remained mostly intact - festive lights that you can view all around the city. Here are some of the best spots to visit that are sure to get you in the holiday spirit: Macy’s Holiday Tree Photo: https://www.thebostoncalendar.com/events/macy-s-holiday-tree-2020 Located right in downtown Boston, this iconic tree is accompanied by special window installations and other socially distanced holiday festivities this year. GMS Donation Drive Serves Cradles to Crayons
This year, Graduate Medical Sciences continued our work with Cradles to Crayons – but this time, it looked a bit different. While we weren’t able to physically visit the facility and package donations this winter, GMS held a successful donation drive, collecting various items for children in need. We are thrilled with the number of faculty, staff and students who donated items like face masks, school supplies, games, and winter clothing. The drive began in November, and all items were collected and donated by December 4th. GMS is proud to support a local nonprofit – Cradles to Crayons has a location in... More

Spotlight Interview: Dr. Tara Moore
Dr. Tara Moore is the Director of the Forensic Anthropology program and one of the Lab Directors at the BUSM Laboratory of Cognitive Neurobiology. We had a chance to speak to her recently about the NIH grant she secured for her research, the Forensic Anthropology Program, and her advice to graduate students! Congratulations on being funded by the NIH! Can you tell us a little more about your research? We have a model of cortical damage which mirrors stroke. Every year almost 800,000 people in the US have a stroke, accompanied by long-term disability or death. We have been looking for 15... More
Gratitude and Zeptoseconds
A letter to the GMS community from Dr. Deborah Stearns-Kurosawa, GMS Associate Provost and Associate Dean ad interim Dated: 10/27/2020 In the spring of 1859, Dickens begins A Tale of Two Cities with “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness…” These lasting words resonate in major conflicts familiar to all of us in recent years in the realms of politics, constitutional rights, systemic... GMS Associate Dean Dr. Stearns-Kurosawa Welcomes Students Back
Welcome to new GMS students and Welcome Back to those returning to campus and classes. It is a pleasure to see familiar faces again and meet new ones, both virtual and in-person. This semester those of us in class are linked to some of you remotely-- across cities, across the US and across the globe. Many of you are participating from many time zones and some from other countries. This is the great strength of BU’s Learn from Anywhere model as we move into the fall semester. It is a strength, but it may also feel like we are scattered. I... More
