STaRS, UROP and SPIN Scholars Present at GMS Summer Undergraduate Research Symposium

This year’s Summer Training as Research Scholars (STaRS) cohort culminated their 10-week onsite internships with the Graduate Medical Sciences Summer Undergraduate Research Symposium held on Aug. 11. Hosted in Hiebert Lounge, the GMS Summer Undergraduate Research Symposium gave the STaRS scholars an opportunity to present their independent research projects to audiences of Boston University Medical Campus faculty, staff and students. PA Class of 2026 Celebrates White Coat Ceremony

The Class of 2026 Physician Assistant students officially marked their entry into the professional study and practice of medicine during their Aug. 1 White Coat Ceremony. The cohort’s 20 students comprise the tenth class of the Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine Physician Assistant (PA) program, which graduated its first students in 2016. Since then, the program has graduated more than 200 students. Forty-five New Students Arrive to Campus for Oral Health Sciences Orientation

The Master of Science in Oral Health Sciences program welcomed 45 new students to the Class of 2024 at its July 27 Orientation event. This year’s class represents 15 different states, as well as Puerto Rico, Canada and China. Massachusetts is heavily represented in the incoming class with nine students, followed by New Jersey (5 students), Ontario (4 students), Virginia (4 students) and California (4 students). Twenty-eight students graduated with an undergraduate degree in biology, with 14 other-science majors and three non-science majors. They Fell in Love with Each Other, Then with the Same Science" The Brink; July 18, 2023 The Brink recently featured GMS faculty mentors Ruslan Afasizhev and Inna Afasizheva in an article detailing the married couple's journey to Boston University and shared love for small RNA biology.  Afasizhev is also BU Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine professor of molecular and cell biology, and Afasizheva is a SDM associate professor of molecular and cell biology. Together, they have studied and published dozens of papers on the mechanics of mitochondrial DNA and RNA in Trypanosoma brucei, a single-celled, disease-causing parasite. Shen Ning is an MD/PhD student in her third year of medical school at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. She completed her Graduate Medical Sciences PhD training in the Graduate Program for Neuroscience, where she conducted her research at the Genetics and Aging Research Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital. C3 Hosts First Ice Cream Social of Summer 2023

The GMS Community Catalyst Center brought its popular Ice Cream Socials back for Summer 2023! C3 hosted the first social on Thursday, June 22 in the C3 Suite (L-306). Students on campus for the summer -- as well as GMS faculty and staff -- gathered to take a break from the work day, catch up, and enjoy a sweet treat. GMS Celebrates Pride at 2023 Red Sox Pride Celebration Game

Congratulations to the eight GMS students who won tickets to the Boston Red Sox Pride Celebration game on Tuesday, June 13! The raffle, held by the Community Catalyst Center, ran for one week between May 31 and June 7. The students who won the raffle included: Darby Gavin Mylene Gorzynski Varuna Jasodanand Ashley Mainville Anosha Khawaja-Lopez Jillianne Son Each student won two tickets -- one for themselves and one for a guest.
