Pediatric ED Partners with Mass College of Art and Design
The BMC Pediatric Emergency Department has partnered with the Massachusetts College of Art and Design to create a more child-friendly environment in the ED.
Called the Boredom Busters Program, BMC and the Massachusetts College of Art and Design have painted multiple brightly-colored murals in the Peds ED exam rooms that feature characters such as Curious George and Winnie the Pooh. The Boredom Busters Program has also raised $40,000 for pediatric programs that aim to improve the patient experience while in the ED. More
Dr. Megan Leo Interviewed On International Ultrasound Education
Congratulations to Dr. Megan Leo, Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine and Director of the Emergency Ultrasound Section, for her recent interview by the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) regarding her efforts to teach emergency point-of-care ultrasound to healthcare providers in Rwanda.
Dr. Leo is a member of the non-profit organization Physicians for Ultrasound in Rwanda Education (PURE) as well as the Chair of the AIUM’s Ultrasound in Global Health Interest Group.

The Massachusetts Resiliency Center, an innovative resource center providing free services and activities for victims of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings, opened on Wednesday at Boston Medical Center. The opening was announced by Massachusetts Attorney General, Martha Coakley. More
Emergency Residents Tour Renowned Homeless Shelter
Emergency medicine second-year residents recently toured the Pine Street Inn, a well-respected non-profit organization that advocates and provides numerous services for members of the Greater Boston community who are experiencing homelessness.
Tours of local shelters and non-profit programs have been integrated into the residency program's curriculum, promoting better understanding of the perspectives and backgrounds of many patients who visit the Emergency Department. More
Dr. Ron Medzon Named Director of Clinical Simulation Center
We are very pleased to announce that Dr. Ron Medzon will become the Director of Boston Medical Center's Clinical Simulation Center effective July 1st. Ron is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine and a practicing clinician in our Emergency Department.
Ron is a graduate of McGill University and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He completed his residency in Emergency Medicine here at the Boston City Hospital/Boston Medical Center program. He has published over 25 peer-reviewed articles, case reports, and book chapters, including in the field of simulation, and has co-edited a textbook in Emergency Medicine. For the past 8 years he has focused on developing educational curricula using simulation in the Emergency Medicine Residency. More
Dr. Judy Linden Receives 2014 Community Clinician of the Year Award
Congratulations to Dr. Judy Linden, Vice Chair for Education and Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine, for receiving the Suffolk District Medical Society 2014 Community Clinician of the Year Award!
This award recognizes a physician from each of the Massachusetts Medical Society's 20 state districts who has made significant contributions to his or her patients, his or her community and who also is a leader in his or her field.
Dr. Linden was cited for her expertise on caring for survivors of sexual assault. Her colleagues stated that "she has been a mentor for many medical students and residents over her career and has focused her research and professional activities on improving the care for survivors of sexual assault." Residency Director Dr. Jeff Schneider Awarded MACEP Physician of the Year

Dr. Gabrielle Jacquet Wins 2014 AWAEM Early Career Faculty Award
We are proud to announce that Dr. Gabrielle A. Jacquet, Assistant Residency Director and Director of the International Health Section, has been chosen as the recipient of the prestigious 2014 Academy for Women in Academic Emergency Medicine (AWAEM) Early Career Faculty award!
Each year AWAEM awards this honor to a female faculty who shows promise for significant career achievements in the field of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Jacquet was chosen because she "has devoted much of her academic focus to Emergency Medicine development projects internationally with research and training projects in India and Haiti. In addition to working internationally, Dr. Jacquet is devoted to improving education in her own residency program and has demonstrated a strong commitment to mentoring. She formally and informally mentors many residents and colleagues and has helped organize a women's mentoring program at her institution. Dr. Jacquet's commitment to education, her advocacy for emergency medicine internationally, and her dedication to mentoring distinguished her among the strong field of candidates."

Joseph Pare Accepted into Yale’s Master of Health Science Program
Congratulations to Dr. Joseph Pare, PGY4, for his acceptance into the Master of Health Science (MHS) program at Yale University!
Dr. Pare, who begins an Ultrasound Fellowship at Yale-New Haven Hospital this summer, is receiving support for the MHS program by the Department of Emergency Medicine. The MHS degree is completed over two years in conjunction with the fellowship program.
Dr. Pare will investigate the use of emergency point-of-care ultrasound for fluid management and resuscitation in sepsis.

Dr. James Feldman Receives Prestigious Massachusetts Medical Society Education Award
We are proud to announce that Dr. James Feldman, Professor of Emergency Medicine and Vice Chair of Emergency Medicine Research, has received the Massachusetts Medical Society 2014 Grant V. Rodkey, M.D. Award for Significant Contributions to Medical Students.
The Massachusetts Medical Society awarded Dr. Feldman this honor because of his “passion and selfless dedication to mentoring medical students, residents, and faculty members; how he encourages students and faculty, by the example of his leadership, to actively participate in organized medicine and apply scientific evidence to practice guidelines and health policy; and how he exemplifies the highest standards of civic and professional responsibility.”
The award ceremony will be held at the Massachusetts Medical Society annual meeting on May 16th in Boston.
