Medical Education

BMC’s Education Section is passionate about continuing the tradition of high-quality, innovative, and effective education for our emergency medicine residents. Our faculty are leaders in residency curriculum development and act as the driving force behind countless educational innovations at BMC. Our graduates are leaders at multiple EM residencies across the country.

Teaching Opportunities

All residents are able to receive the academic appointment of Instructor within the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. Within the medical school, there are countless opportunities to get involved from teaching in the EM clerkship and Sub-I, leading the medical school Wilderness Medicine Elective, to career development sessions with EMIG. Additionally, residents are able to serve as course instructors in Doctoring 1, a yearlong course focused on foundational history and exam skills.

Within the residency program, our clinical model emphasizes the importance of near-peer teaching and modeling. Senior residents help design and run our Intern Orientation and PGY-2 Resuscitation University. Additionally, during the month of July, the PGY-4 residents serve as clinical teachers, paired with PGY-2 resus residents to help coach them through critical cases and procedures.

Medical Education Scholarship

Residents interested in a career in medical education can use their time to explore both UME and GME educational experiences, medical education research projects, or simulation training.
