A Chance to Connect and Win Gear at Student Affairs Welcome Back Event

Graduate Medical Sciences Student Affairs hosted a "Welcome Back Relax & Chat & Gear Raffle" event in L-311 on Friday, Jan. 31. The afternoon event invited students to connect with peers, enjoy cookies and warm beverages, and enter a raffle to win brand-new gear from the GMS Online Store. Raffle items included GMS-branded zip-up hoodies, sweatshirts, crewnecks, long-sleeve shirts and t-shirts, as well as baseball caps and water bottles. GMS is proud to celebrate Black History Month! This year marks the 49th annual Black History Month since it was federally recognized in 1976. End-of-Semester Mix & Mingle Social Returns for Another Successful Year!

Over 200 Graduate Medical Sciences community members -- students, faculty and staff -- attended the 2024 End-of-Semester Mix & Mingle, hosted in collaboration between GMS, the Community Catalyst Center, and GMS Student Affairs. The annual event, held this year on Thursday, Dec. 5 in Hiebert Lounge, included a wide array of appetizers and desserts, a bar, games and live music from GMS Marketing & Communications Specialist Mike Bloom. Assistant Professor of Biochemistry and Cell Biology Mohsan Saeed Featured in The Brink

West Nile, Zika, Coronavirus: This BU Researcher Is Taking On Some of the World’s Most Serious Viruses—and He Plans to Win The Brink; Nov. 21, 2024 Assistant Professor of Biochemistry and Cell Biology Mohsan Saeed was featured in a recent article from The Brink about his research tackling some of the most serious diseases in the world, such as West Nile virus, Zika virus and SARS-CoV-2. GMS Faculty Spotlight: Dennis Jones, PhD

Graduate Medical Sciences faculty member Dennis Jones, PhD, is an assistant professor of pathology & laboratory medicine at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. Research in Jones' lab seeks to understand immune system suppression in breast cancers, with a focus on dysfunction of blood vessels in tumors. Jones recently received one of 11 National Cancer Institute (NCI) Cancer Moonshot Scholar Awards, as well as a National Institutes of Health ReWARD R01 grant that will balance both research and outreach elements. Student Spotlight: Crystal Vejar, MAMS ‘25

Crystal Vejar is a second-year student in the Master of Science in Medical Sciences (MAMS) Program at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. A first-generation, non-traditional student and a sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserve, Vejar has taken a unique path to Graduate Medical Sciences.
