Save the date! Graduate Medical Sciences will host its annual End-of-Semester Mix & Mingle social event next Thursday, Nov. 30, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Join your GMS community in Hiebert Lounge for an evening of appetizers, desserts, a bar, live music, games and raffle prizes! The Mix & Mingle is co-sponsored by the Community Catalyst Center and GMS Student Affairs. It is open to all GMS students, faculty and staff -- so we hope to see you there! Student Spotlight: Ciara Coger (MHCBM ’24)

Ciara Coger is a second-year student in the Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling & Behavioral Medicine program at Graduate Medical Sciences. Ciara’s research studies lay beliefs and lay theories surrounding COVID-19 health disparities in the United States. It is officially Boston University First-Generation College Celebration Week, which celebrates the success and achievements of first-generation students across our campuses. Boston University and the Newbury Center have marked the occasion with a week-long celebration program, full of events like workshops, social activities, seminars and networking opportunities. You can access a full list of the week's ongoing events here. Students Trick-or-Treat Through GMS for Halloween

Graduate Medical Sciences students had the chance to channel their inner child during the first-ever GMS Trick-or-Treat event, hosted by GMS Student Affairs on Monday, Oct. 30. Students started in L-301, where they picked up a map and a bag from the event's first stop and check-in table. Then, they followed the map through the third floor of the Instructional Building, stopping at 10 tables representing different offices and student resources available within GMS. Deep Dive Video: Updating the Science of Bloodstain Analysis and Forensics The Brink; Oct. 20, 2023 A recent Deep Dive video from The Brink featured Kenneth Martin, MS, a clinical instructor in the Graduate Medical Sciences MS in Biomedical Forensic Sciences Program. The video discusses current work at the BU Fluid Lab, where James Bird, PhD, an ENG associate professor of mechanical engineering, is working to study the complex interactions of human blood on different surfaces. GMS Student Spotlight: Kelly Chen (MAMS ’24)

Kelly Chen is a second-year master's student in the Graduate Medical Sciences MS in Medical Sciences (MAMS) program. She is currently completing her MAMS thesis at the Division of Digital Psychiatry at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, under the direction of John Torous, MD, MBI. Chen works with the division's Digital Clinic, a program offering one-on-one, short-term cognitive behavioral therapy with a clinician that is augmented with a smartphone app. She is also involved with the Student Wellness Committee at GMS. CReM Celebrates 10 Years as Leading Stem Cell Research Center

CReM Celebrates 10th Anniversary as Pioneering Center for Stem Cell Research Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine; October 13, 2023 The Center for Regenerative Medicine (CReM) is celebrating its 10th anniversary as a foremost center for stem cell research. Alina Bazarian is a 2016 graduate of the Boston University Master of Science in Medical Sciences (MAMS) program, one of the oldest Special Master’s Programs (SMPs) in the United States. BU Alum Drew Weissman Wins 2023 Nobel Prize in Medicine for Breakthrough mRNA Technology that led to COVID Vaccines Bostonia; October 2, 2023 Drew Weissman (CAMED '87, GRS '87, Hon'23), alongside his research collaborator, Katalin Karikó, won the 2023 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their work in pioneering the technology behind the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines.
