Congratulations to Dr. Aileen Zhen, DO, who recently graduated from Boston University and Boston Medical Center’s Nephrology Fellowship Training Program! A Boston native, Aileen joined BMC’s Nephrology Fellowship family in 2019. She was attracted to many features of the program, including the “subspecialty clinics (lupus, amyloid, transplant), expertise in subspecialty fields (GN, PKD, etc.) within the BMC nephrology section, the patient population, and BMC’s focus on social determinants of health.” Finding medicine intellectually stimulating and patient interactions rewarding, Aileen was naturally drawn to the medical field. Within Nephrology, Aileen greatly appreciates the wide range of pathology and severity of illness within the field, and it has been exciting for her to witness “all the new practice-changing research in nephrology in recent years.” Since joining the Nephrology Fellowship Program at BMC, Aileen’s favorite aspects to experience have been “the supportiveness from co-fellows, attendings, and staff, and the challenges of taking care of medically and socially complex patients.” Outside of work, Aileen enjoys hiking, running, traveling, skiing, and checking out new restaurants and breweries in Boston. After fellowship, Dr. Zhen will be joining Springfield Clinic, a large multispecialty group in Springfield, IL, as a general nephrologist.
