Recommendation Instructions
Welcome to the Graduate Medical Sciences Recommendation Instructions!
Thank you for taking the time to refer an applicant to one of our graduate programs. GMS values the opportunity to get to know our applicants holistically in order to identify a good match for both the program and the student’s academic goals. By submitting a recommendation letter, you are providing a more robust understanding of the applicant’s character, aptitude and value to our graduate student community. Below are suggestions on what the admissions committee looks for in a letter. Please be sure to submit on your letterhead with a signature.
Master's Program Applicant
Please assess the applicant’s academic accomplishments, personality, and character—particularly those qualities that bear on his/her promise as a student, biomedical researcher or health professional—in a formal letter of recommendation. Please indicate your relationship with the applicant, how long you have known them and articulate his/her academic or professional background. It is helpful to note the state of the applicant’s preparation and motivation for the intended program as well as their communication skills and ability to work independently. The listing of any special honors or awards, interests, abilities and accomplishments that are of relevance is also helpful.
Please upload your recommendation letter on the applicant’s behalf by using the URL sent via email by the indicated deadline. Your letter will be sent directly to the program to which the applicant is applying. Thank you for providing your recommendation as it is essential for our admissions process.
