Statement of Professional Compartment

All GMS Educators and Mentors members should be familiar with the GMS Appropriate Treatment in Graduate Education Policy as stated below, as well as our Fair Expectations for Graduate Students document.

Graduate Medical Sciences is committed to providing a supportive and respectful learning environment that fosters mutual trust among all community members. Such an educational environment engenders optimal teaching, learning and professional development.

  • Promote the school’s educational goals through example, education and support;
  • Treat others in a respectful manner grounded in civility and honesty;
  • Maintain an inclusive learning environment that encourages open inquiry and expression among community members while recognizing and respecting diversity of background, values, and views.

As GMS Educators and Mentors, you are strongly encouraged to attend annual professionalism seminars presented by the Office of the Ombuds.


If you are interested in applying to become a GMS Graduate & Educator Mentor we are looking for faculty that are contributing to graduate education in a meaningful way through a combination of research, mentorship, directing a program, or teaching in PhD and/or Master’s programs and fulfilling an important service to graduate training and the GMS mission

The application is included below and requires a  (1) Letter of Nomination by Department Chair or Program Director, (2) your CV and (3) a  Statement on your Motivation for applying for GMS GEMS Membership
