Waterhouse Professor and Chair of Anatomy & Neurobiology Jennifer Luebke, PhD, has served in many roles at BU, including as principal investigator of the Laboratory of Cellular Neurobiology since 1996, vice-chair of anatomy & neurobiology, and director of the PhD and Vesalius Master’s Programs in Anatomy & Neurobiology. The Community Catalyst Center hosted its third-annual "Gear-Up Week" from Sept. 16 to 20. Welcome to Fall 2024 at Graduate Medical Sciences!

The Fall 2024 semester has officially begun at Graduate Medical Sciences! This semester, we are thrilled to welcome 469 new students to GMS, including 422 master’s students and 47 PhD students. These students represent 16 master’s programs and five PhD programs. The cohort comes from 34 different countries and 38 states. They attended 223 undergraduate institutions. PA White Coat Ceremony Welcomes 22 Students to the Class of 2027

Now donning their white coats, the Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine Physician Assistant (PA) Class of 2027 has officially entered the study and professional practice of medicine. The cohort’s 22 students celebrated their White Coat Ceremony surrounded by faculty, staff, family and friends on Friday, Aug. 9, in Hiebert Lounge. The students comprise the program’s 11th class and will one day join more than 200 PA alumni who have graduated since 2016. STaRS Scholars Present at 2024 GMS Summer Undergraduate Research Symposium

The 2024 Summer Training as Research Scholars (STaRS) cohort concluded their 10-week internships at the Graduate Medical Sciences Summer Undergraduate Research Symposium, held in Hiebert Lounge on Aug. 6. The symposium began with oral research presentations by the STaRS scholars, followed by an afternoon poster session that included STaRS and research volunteer students. Forty-seven Students Join the MS in Oral Health Sciences Class of 2025

The Master of Science in Oral Health Sciences (OHS) program welcomed 47 new students to its Class of 2025 during its Orientation event on Thursday, August 1. This year's class is represented by students from 13 different states, including 12 from Massachusetts and six each from California and New York. Six students are joining the cohort from Canada, with another three from China, the Philippines and South Korea. Twenty-five students in the incoming cohort graduated with undergraduate degrees in biology, with the remaining students graduating in other-science majors. GMS Faculty Spotlight: Esther Bullitt, PhD

Esther Bullitt, PhD, is a professor of pharmacology, physiology & biophysics at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. She is the director of both the biophysics and physiology graduate programs within Graduate Medical Sciences. Dr. Bullitt was recently awarded a Shared Instrumentation Grant by the National Institutes of Health, which helped to fund BU’s new Cryo-EM Core Facility. The facility celebrated the “First Light” of its Glacios-2 cryogenic electron microscope (cryo-EM) in April 2024.
