CReM Celebrates 10th Anniversary as Pioneering Center for Stem Cell Research Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine; October 13, 2023 The Center for Regenerative Medicine (CReM) is celebrating its 10th anniversary as a foremost center for stem cell research. The CReM is a joint effort between Boston University and Boston Medical Center that includes nine principal investigators covering various aspects of developmental biology, stem cell biology and regenerative medicine. Alina Bazarian is a 2016 graduate of the Boston University Master of Science in Medical Sciences (MAMS) program, one of the oldest Special Master’s Programs (SMPs) in the United States. BU Alum Drew Weissman (CAMED’87, GRS’87, Hon’23) Wins 2023 Nobel Prize in Medicine

BU Alum Drew Weissman Wins 2023 Nobel Prize in Medicine for Breakthrough mRNA Technology that led to COVID Vaccines Bostonia; October 2, 2023 Drew Weissman (CAMED '87, GRS '87, Hon'23), alongside his research collaborator, Katalin Karikó, won the 2023 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their work in pioneering the technology behind the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines. Weissman earned both an MD and PhD from Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, studying microbiology and immunology. Read the full story from Bostonia here.

The Community Catalyst Center marked the beginning of the fall semester with “Gear-Up Week,” hosted from Sept. 11 to 15. GMS PhD Spotlight: Stamatios Liapis ‘24

Stamatios Liapis is a January 2024 Computational Neuroscience PhD graduate through the Graduate Program for Neuroscience at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. He is the co-founder of Enlaye, a cloud-based deep-collaboration contract platform that streamlines the writing, editing, negotiation, and collaboration phases of contracts. Welcome to Fall 2023 at Graduate Medical Sciences! This semester, we are welcoming 459 new students to GMS, including 408 master’s students and 51 PhD students. These students represent 16 master’s programs and six PhD programs. The cohort comes from 17 different countries and 40 states. They attended 215 undergraduate institutions.
