Howard Hughes Medical Institute International Student Research Fellowships

Fellowship application deadline Wednesday November 24. Dr. Hughes (GRS) and Dr. Hyman (GMS) have made us aware of an exciting opportunity for graduate fellowships open to international students.  The Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) has instituted a new graduate fellowship program for non-US graduate students doing research in a bio-medical field, broadly defined.  HHMI has invited Boston University to nominate up to 7 students to compete for this prestigious award. To be eligible a student must be:

1.      In his/her 2nd or 3rd year of graduate student

2.      Have joined the group or lab in which they plan to do their dissertation research

3.      NOT a US citizen, national or permanent resident.

The fellowship is for 3 years, carries an annual stipend of $30,000 plus $3000 for the student’s own research-related expenses. $10k is provided the university to cover tuition and fees.

Students who qualify and wish to be considered for nomination by BU should send

1.      A CV or resume

2.      A one-page description of their research project

3.      An unofficial copy of their BU transcript.

HHMI says “eligible biomedical-related fields include biology, chemistry, physics, math, computer science, engineering, and plant biology – as well as interdisciplinary research” and encourages nomination of students from diverse fields.
