The Robert F. Russell, MD, BUSM ’46, Chapter of the Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS) at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine was founded in 2006 with support from the Arnold P. Gold Foundation. This chapter is part of the Arnold P. Gold Foundation’s larger national GHHS that recognizes and supports humanistic exemplars in medicine. Since 2006, over 500 medical students, residents, and faculty members have been inducted into the GHHS Chobanian & Avedisian SOM chapter by peer nomination. Election to GHHS membership constitutes a significant honor, comparable to being selected to AOA. Ken Grundfast, MD is the GHHS chapter advisor. Ana Gregory is the administrative contact.

“Be Worthy to Serve the Suffering”

Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) is the only national honor medical society, and it is organized exclusively for educational purposes. Its aims are the promotion of scholarship and research in medical schools, the encouragement of high standards of character and conduct among medical students and graduates, and the recognition of high attainment in medical sciences, practice, and related fields.

Dr. Elizabeth Yellen and Dr. Gregory  Grillone, along with the Deans of the Student Affairs Office, convene during the summer and early fall to select the new students to be elected into AΩA.
