Overview	To protect your computer from viruses and other malware, you can use anti-virus and anti-spyware software, make sure your auto-update and firewall settings are properly configured, and develop a general awareness of how to keep your computer safe. BUMC IT helps by providing site-licensed software, instructions for choosing safe settings on your computer, and assistance with virus detection and removal.

Benefits	Personal computers can be infected by viruses and spyware; once infected, your computer’s security and your own identity and financial information can easily come under attack. There are a few simple steps you can — and should — take to keep your computer safe and secure.
Key Features	Learn how to keep your computer safe. Use site-licensed anti-virus software (McAfee VirusScan) without charge. Get help if your computer becomes infected with a virus or spyware.
Requirements	To download McAfee VirusScan, our site-licensed anti-virus software, you need a current BU login name and Kerberos password.
Cost	Computers enrolled in the Computer Support Subscription Service: No charge. Non-supported computers: 15 minutes of diagnostic troubleshooting is free of charge. For additional troubleshooting, you must provide BUMC IT with an account number and you will be charged a rate of $100 per hour for repairs.
