Statement on Diversity

The Boston Medical Center Department of Surgery is committed to providing and sustaining an inclusive surgical residency program to create an environment in which everyone has the ability to reach their potential. We are aligned with Boston Medical Center’s mission, and we strive to more fully reflect the communities we serve.

Boston Medical Center is committed to the recruitment, engagement, and advancement of underrepresented minority (URM) physicians within our residency and fellowship ranks.

Resources

To enhance our diversity efforts, we collaborate with the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine Diversity and Inclusion Office  and support Boston University’s statement on diversity.

The Department of Surgery is home to the Center for Transgender Medicine and Surgery, the Community Violence Response Team, and Socially Responsible Surgery.

BMC Mission

The mission of Boston Medical Center (BMC) is to provide exceptional care without exception. Throughout BMC, people and programs serve and support our patients in myriad ways that extend beyond high-quality medical and surgical care. These include a large rooftop farm that grows food for the hospital’s Preventive Food Pantry, the Violence Intervention Advocacy Program, the Boston Center for Refugee Health and Human Rights, and Boston Healthcare for the Homeless, and more.
