Grasberger Research Symposium

In 1990, the Department of Surgery established the Grasberger Research Symposium in memory of Robert C. Grasberger, MD, an outstanding graduate of our training program who died in 1987. In recognition of Dr. Grasberger’s academic and research accomplishments, the Grasberger Symposium provides an opportunity for our surgical residents and fellows to present original basic and clinical research.

2022 Grasberger Symposium

On February 25, we were honored to welcome endocrine surgeons Julie Ann Sosa, MD, MA, FACS, FSSO, and Sanziana A. Roman, MD, FACS, as our Grasberger Visiting Professors. Dr. Sosa is Chair of the Department of Surgery at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine and the Leon Goldman MD Distinguished Professor of Surgery. She is also a professor in the Department of Medicine and affiliated faculty for the Philip R. Lee Institute for Health Policy Studies.

Dr. Roman is a Professor of Surgery at the UCSF School of Medicine and the Dean’s Diversity Leader for Leadership, Equity, and Inclusion. In her keynote address, she spoke to “Diversity and Inclusion in Surgery: Practical Approaches to Moving the Needle.”

Residents, fellows, and medical students participated in oral and poster presentations during the daylong symposium.
