Getting to BUMC in 2021

Getting to BUMC in 2021

Dear Colleagues,

As we prepare for a new school year and some of you plan your return tocampus after being away for some time, I’d like to take this opportunity to share a few changes about transportation and commuting programs that will hopefully improve your commute.

MBTA Passes
The 10th of each month is still the deadline for enrolling in, cancelling, or changing your participation in BU’s 50% subsidized MBTA Pass Benefit. Those not currently enrolled who wish to get a July MBTA pass must be sure to sign up via BUworks by Thursday, June 10th.

One change: MBTA passes are now mailed to your home address on file with the University – no need to pick them up! Also: please familiarize yourself with MBTA service changes and COVID-19 precautions.

The BUS
Like so many things, riding the BU Shuttle is different at this time. Face masks are required, eating and drinking are prohibited, and there’s a rigorous cleaning schedule. Whenever possible, please consider walking or bicycling for short trips.

Our new app
The old “BUS app” has been retired. Next time you need to figure out whether it would be faster to take the BUS, wait for the T, walk, or bike, look no further than our new app – Terrier Transit, now available for iOS and Android. You’ll find real-time information from the BU Shuttle, the MBTA, Bluebikes, and Zipcar all in one place!

Daily Parking Options
There are multiple daily options on the Medical Campus but price and availability vary.

  • DOB Garage (720 Harrison Ave) – $21/day (apply online to be inthe “DOB Daily Fee” program, cannot be used more than twice per week, program availability is limited and subject to a $20 annual fee)
  • Crosstown Garage (7 Melnea Cass Blvd) – $17.75 (must arrive before 9am, reservations required)
  • 710 Albany St Garage – $40 after 7 hours (pull a ticket upon entry and, before returning to your vehicle, use pay station in cashier lobby)

For the most up-to-date information, we recommend contacting the Medical Campus Parking & Transportation Services office at 617-358-3506 or bubmcpts@bu.edu.

Parking using the above options does not preclude you from enrolling inemployee MBTA transit benefits including 50% subsidized MBTA Passes and parking at MBTA transit stations.

Reinstate Parking Permit
BUMC employees should fill out a BUMC-BMC Parking Permit Applicationto reinstate their previously held permit.

Sign up for GoMassCommute
BU employees can now earn free emergency rides home (via Uber), as well as transportation subsidies, bike checkups, and prize drawings through GoMassCommute, a service provided by our longtime transportation partners at A Better City TMA. GoMassCommute even helps connect neighbors for carpooling. Remember: 610 Albany Street Garage permit holders get special access to a preferential parking area if they carpool.

Our office at  710 Albany Street
We miss seeing you but we’ve moved most of our transactions online, which is faster and safer for everyone. Of course, if you need to pick up some free bike lights, a helmet, or a replacement MBTA pass, the office is open weekdays from 7AM to 5PM.

As always, if you have any questions about our transportation programs, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Best,
Billy Hajjar – Director
