Digital Phenotyping and Portable Neuroimaging in Mental
Health: Promise and Peril for the Criminal Justice System

New neurotechnology such as portable neuroimaging and digital phenotyping tools utilizing smartphones, wearables, and sensors, will provide novel data streams to inform mental health research and clinical care. This talk will discuss emerging strategies to address the ethical and legal challenges associated with the advent of these new technologies. The presentation will also examine the promise and peril of these new technologies for forensic use, and introduce efforts underway to advance the use of neurotechnology to promote more just and effective outcomes in the criminal justice system.
