Medical Student Residence WiFi and Wired Network

Overview BUMC IT provides full support to network connectivity provided for students living in the Medical Student Residence. Both wired and wireless network access are available.
Available To Residents and Guests of 815 Albany Street, Medical Student Residence (MSR)
Network Access Previously, internet access at the MSR was supported by Comcast/Xfinity. As of late September 2020, wireless access points have been placed in each of the suite bedrooms that broadcast eduroam WiFi network. Each access point is a white Cisco Aironet 1815 that looks like this:
Blue ports for access to BU network
As shown in the picture, on the bottom of the access point, two middle ports provide wired/Ethernet access. No other Ethernet ports in the room are active. Ethernet is faster and provides a more reliable connection. There is also an Ethernet port in the kitchen/living room for residents to plug in Smart TV or other wired/Ethernet capable device.
Additional
Devices
Xfinity TV is accessible through the Xfinity On Campus service.

Smart TVs, Rokus, Amazon Fire, and Chromecast devices may work on BU Guest or wired Ethernet. Chromecast, Roku, and Amazon Fire devices all have Ethernet adapters that can be purchased online.

Troubleshooting If you are getting poor signal or connection, please verify your access point is visible, and not hiding behind a piece of furniture. The best connection is when there is no furniture blocking the access point.

If the wired Ethernet port isn’t working, and you are plugged into either the White access point on the wall or the single, labeled Ethernet connection in the kitchen, contact us with a picture of the port and we will investigate.
