Add/Drop Tool Instructions
Adding or Dropping Electives: Using the CAMED Online Add/Drop System
To schedule or change CAMED electives, students must use the online Add/Drop system:
- Log In: Add/Drop System
- View Your Schedule: Upon logging in, your current schedule will be displayed. Click the “Schedule Change” button to make updates.
- Actions: Select one of the following options for the desired block:
- Add: Choose the course from the drop-down menu (only participating courses appear). All other electives require the paper Add/Drop form. Once selected, hit “Submit Request.”
- Move: Allows you to change the elective to another available block. Only open blocks will appear, and you cannot move into a block with a pending request or scheduled course.
- Drop: Remove the elective from your schedule.
- Track Status: After each action, you’ll return to the Schedule Change screen, where you can track the status of your request.
- Confirmation Emails: You will receive email confirmations for all Add, Move, or Drop requests.
- Final Approval: Once approved, the elective will appear on your schedule, and you will receive a confirmation email from the coordinator.
Outside Electives: Process for VSLO and Non-LCME Accredited Electives
VSLO Electives (LCME-Accredited Institutions)
Students who are accepted for electives through the Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO) system should use the online Add/Drop tool to input the following details:
- Block and dates
- Course name
- Course location
- Preceptor’s name and contact information
Important: The dates entered in the Add/Drop system must match the approved dates in VSLO.
Non-LCME Accredited Electives
For electives at institutions that are not LCME-accredited (or not listed in VSLO), students must follow these steps:
- Obtain a detailed description of the elective from the prospective supervisor.
- Submit the description, along with an Outside Elective Approval Form, to the comparable department head at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine for approval.
If the elective site requires an affiliation agreement, the elective coordinator should contact Rebecca Halley:
