Master of Arts in Medical Sciences

Program Overview

The Master of Arts in Medical Sciences Program is designed for those interested in a career in health care to have an opportunity to enhance their academic preparation prior to the application process. Competition for seats in medical schools and other health care professional schools has become intense with an average of 3 qualified applicants per seat in medical schools. Therefore. it is imperative to present academic credentials which demonstrate unequivocally one’s ability to successfully complete the proposed curriculum. Over the past 25 years this Program has been one of the best in the country at identifying outstanding candidates for medical and other health care related schools. In fact, of the 1771 graduates to date (2009), 1314 or over 70% of those students applying have gained admittance to U.S. medical schools, while some have gone to foreign medical schools in the United Kingdom,  Ireland, Sweden and Israel.

Another group of our students has gained admission to osteopathic medical schools and schools of dental medicine. We also offer a Oral Health Curriculum Track for students who are specifically interested in dental medicine.  The excellent preparation provided by the program is further evidenced by the fact that the percentage of MA students in a medical class who earn honors recognition in both basic sciences and clinical courses exceeds their overall percentage composition of the medical school class. In addition to the outstanding academic training provided, Boston University School of Medicine is a major academic research center offering a wide variety of research opportunities in both basic science and clinical settings.

Finally, Boston itself is a cultural center of unrivaled variety including, but not limited to the Museum of Fine Arts, the Boston Symphony Orchestra,  the Boston Ballet Company, performing a wide range of dance from classical to modern, and numerous travelling Broadway companies which perform at Boston’s active theater district. Many of these activities are available to students at reduced rates. The opportunities for academic and personal growth abound at Boston University School of Medicine.
