BU WiFi (802.1x) – New Wireless Certificate 6/30/21

June 30th, 2021 in News

If you use the BU (802.1x) wireless network on your mobile device or phone, you may need to reconnect to it once to allow it to automatically reconnect.

There was a wireless certificate change that seems to have temporarily prevented BU 802.1x from connecting automatically on most phones. Laptops may be asked to accept a new certificate as they usually do on the first connection. Some laptops that auto-connect to wifi may need to be manually connected once or have the auto-connection reconfigured if they no longer auto-login to wifi.

To do this on a phone, go to your Settings and the list of wireless networks. Find BU (802.1x) in the list of available networks and connect to it. Reconnecting might not prompt for your password, but it should prompt you to accept a new wireless certificate from radius.bu.edu after which it should reconnect smoothly again.

If wifi still does not work after that, reboot your phone and try again.

Going forward, due to technical limitations of the wireless certificate this will need to be done again next year around this time.
