DOM CONNECT
Collaborative Onboarding for New faculty to Network, Engage, Connect, & Thrive, aka CONNECT in DOM is a program designed to strengthen onboarding, connection, and career development for new faculty in the Department of Medicine (DOM). It combines a protected-time, in-person welcome event each fall with ongoing, role-specific peer learning groups throughout faculty’s first year.
What will I get out of it?
Through DOM CONNECT, faculty will build a peer network; collaborate across disciplines and roles; develop an Individual Development Plan (IDP); assemble a mentoring team; navigate institutional resources; apply organizational strategies; articulate a professional narrative; increase self-efficacy in balancing work and personal goals; and grow a sense of belonging within DOM.
How is it structured?
DOM CONNECT starts with a New Faculty Welcome & Orientation each September; a two-hour, in-person event to introduce peer groups and orient faculty to DOM. Between the welcome event and the first peer learning group, faculty will begin to draft an Individual Development Plan (IDP) to help guide group discussions.
The small peer learning groups then meet monthly (1 hour each) from October through May, facilitated by mid-to-senior DOM faculty. Sessions focus on connection, goal-setting, problem-solving, and understanding the resources available at BUMC.
