General Cardiology Application Process
Thank you for your interest in the Boston University Medical Center Cardiovascular Medicine Fellowship Program. Six positions are offered in each year of the three-year clinical fellowship, however the number of matched positions in each application cycle varies depending upon fellows entering the program through the research track. Applications should be submitted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) of the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). A link to the ERAS system can be found here. A link to the NRMP system and schedule of dates can be found here. We prefer that candidates submit their applications as early as possible to expedite scheduling of interviews. All application materials for the 2021 match cycle (to start Fellowship in July 2022) are due on August 1, 2021. You may begin to submit application materials via ERAS on July 1, 2021.
Applications are reviewed in the late Summer after the following documentation is received:
- Completed ERAS Application Form
- Residency Program Director’s Letter
- ECFMG Certificate (only international medical graduates)
- At least three Letters of Recommendation (preferably from Cardiology faculty)
- Curriculum Vitae
- Personal Statement
- USMLE score report or verification of pass/fail status
International applicants must have a J-1 Visa, H-1 Visa, or a U.S. citizen Permanent Resident status. Boston Medical Center has very limited availability but will sponsor H-1 Visas for matched fellowship applicants.
Interviews, held on Mondays during late September and early October, are by invitation only. During the visit, applicants meet with members of the faculty and the current fellows, attend a teaching conference, and tour the facility. Additionally, applicants will spend their lunch hour meeting our fellows in a less formal setting. All interview invitations will be issued by early September.
Interviewees are invited to attend a dinner with our cardiology fellows on the evening before their interview.
