Student Pre-Orientation & White Coat Requirements, Class of 2030

Pre-Orientation Requirements

The below requirements must be completed by all First-Year Students by Friday, July 31, 2026 (unless otherwise stated):

• Review and submit the Medical Student Policy Disclosures – by July 31
• Submit Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine Photo Release– by July 31
• Per Student Health Services, review and complete incoming health requirements for clinical students items by July 3, 2026, as all records must be reviewed by SHS and cleared before your arrival on Monday, Aug. 3, 2026.
  • • To check compliance and upload records, Go To Patient Connect. 
    • Students who arrive with any outstanding compliance requirements will not be allowed to begin the curriculum until all requirements are fulfilled 
    • Any questions regarding your health records should be directed to Student Health Services. Contact them through the Patient Connect Portal ‘Messages’, or by calling 617-353-3575.
  • Immunization compliance – Documentation to be submitted one month before you begin.  
    • You will be required to update Influenza and COVID-19 vaccine information in the fall of 2026. You should submit your most recent records for these items in the interim.
  • Health History Form – Documentation to be submitted one month before you begin. 
  • OSHA Respiratory Medical Clearance Questionnaire – required for clinical students 
    • Log into Patient Connect, go to “Messages” and select ‘New Message’ 
    • Select ‘OSHA Respirator Medical Clearance’ and complete the form. Be sure to submit at the end or the form will not save.
  • Health Insurance requirement – Learn more about the health insurance requirement and SHIP 
  • Graduate Sexual misconduct prevention training – will be made available during July or August, and will be sent to you directly by Student Health Services. This item will not be completed prior to your arrival. 
• As clinical students, you are required to be in compliance with workplace trainings through Boston Medical Center through the Workday portal.  Instructions to access your Workday Account  and complete onboarding will be emailed to you directly in July, approximately 2 weeks before you arrive.  At that time, you must complete the following trainings:
  1. BMCHS Compliance Is Everyone’s Responsibility FY26
  2. BMCHS Infection Prevention & TB Informational FY26
  3. BMC Emergency Management (Main Campus) FY26
  4. BMC Safety (Main Campus) FY26

White Coat Ceremony Preparation & Requirements

The White Coat Ceremony will be held at the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, 72 East Concord Street, Boston, MA on Monday, Aug. 3. 

• Order White Coat & provide additional details for arrival – by midnight June 21
• Submit your preferred name pronunciation on BU’s ‘Hear My Name’ platform – by July 16 
  • Name recordings can be made once your BU Kerberos account information has been set up. You will use your BU email and password to log in at the link above. 
  • This recording allows your name to be pronounced correctly at the White Coat Ceremony. 
  • Please record your first and last name. 
  • Once recorded, you can embed a link to the recording at the bottom of your email signature for others to hear. By default, your recording is visible in the BU directory. You can change this in the application settings. 

• Register up to 2 guests for White Coat Ceremony – by July 20 
  • The Ceremony will be held at the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine at 11am on Monday, August 3.
  • Each student is allotted 2 guests for the White Coat Ceremony. There will be a livestream available remotely and on-site inside the School for extra guests to view the ceremony. 
  •  You may join the waitlist for extra guests in the case that additional seats are available and can be offered. There are no guarantees additional guests can be accommodated.
