New Students
Massachusetts Law requires that all full-time students be enrolled in a qualifying student health insurance plan.
Incoming students will be automatically enrolled in the Aetna Student Basic Individual Plan with an effective date of August 5, 2024.
In addition, students have the option to enroll in the Aetna Student Health Plus Plan (spouse or dependents are not eligible for enrollment in the Basic Plan). If you wish to change from the default plan (Student Basic Plan) to the Student Health Plus Plan you must send your request to insmed@bu.edu by the open enrollment deadline of September 5, 2024.
If you do not choose to participate in either of the plans offered by the university you must document your participation in a health insurance plan with comparable coverage.

The Student Accounts Office will be communicating with students regarding the waiver procedure. Please watch for their email.
Deadline to waive health insurance is September 5, 2024.
Please Note: Aetna Student Health Care benefits are terminated upon effective date of change in student status, i.e. leave of absence or withdrawal.
