NIA Renews Critical Funding for Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center
The National Institute on Aging (NIA) has approved a nearly $24 million five-year grant, approximately $4.7 million a year, to fund Boston University’s Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC) for the next five years. The NIA has been the primary funder of the center since its founding 30 years ago and these grants come up for renewal every five years.
The funding will help support the center’s work across research, education, clinical trials, and community outreach. Its investigators are currently leading studies on memory and aging, genetic risk factors, caregiving, and brain imaging. The ADRC also hosts the BU Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) Center, a world-leading hub for the study of brain trauma in athletes, military personnel, and victims of domestic violence.
