Class of 2028 Third Year Clerkship Scheduling Information
Our process for choosing third-year clerkships is managed through the e*Value Optimization Scheduling (EVOS) tool, referred to as eValue. EVOS uses a mathematical and linear approach to optimize student schedules. Below is an overview of how to access the system and enter your preferences. Additional resources can be found at the bottom of the page.

Inputting Preferences (December 1–7, 2025):
Once logged in, you will be prompted to set your preferences for each of the 7 core clerkships and the selective. There are 8 pages to complete—one for each core clerkship and one for the selective.
- For each clerkship, you can set 5 levels of preference (first choice, second choice, etc..). For each level of preference you can select a specific site or a specific block (or both).
- A wild card option allows you to indicate flexibility (e.g., any block at a specific site or any site in a specific block).
The lottery algorithm is programmed to maximize the number of first choice preferences. Your first choice carries exponentially more weight, so it is important to prioritize it carefully. Preferences with greater probability (sites with more spots; wild cards) are the strongest first choice preferences. The system is designed to maximize the number of students who receive their first-choice preferences, while still meeting everyone’s scheduling needs.
Important notes:
- Research selective requires a separate application process through the MSRO portal. Only list in the lottery if you’ve already applied.
- Radiology is available in every block
- Emergency Medicine is available in blocks, I, N, O, P, Q, R, S, and T. If taking Emergency Medicine in M3 is a priority for you, ensure your schedule is built around the available blocks
- You can fill out every preference row, leave some blank, or input only a few preferences. However, providing more data increases the likelihood of getting the rotations you want.
- There are 16 possible scheduling paths for the third year, designed to ensure each student can complete all seven core clerkships and one selective within a feasible arrangement of blocks. When submitting lottery preferences, make sure your choices align with the block structure.

Special Circumstances:
You will have the option to write in a “special circumstances” comment box to clarify your preferences (e.g., “I have received care at Fuller so cannot be assigned there”; “the most important thing for me is to remain local during certain Blocks”). Providing this information helps ensure an optimal schedule for all. This field is best used conveying either personal circumstances or your single overall scheduling priority.
- Something unique to you that impacts your schedule, including but not limited to:
-
- An approved disability accommodation that impacts site assignment
-
- Having received medical care at an affiliate site
- Your single overall priority, for example:
-
- If overall preferences are not available, top priority is completing Psych in the BMC ED – regardless of block
-
- Interested in rural medicine, so top priority is completing a rotation in the Berkshires – regardless of clerkship or block
-
- Top priority is taking Internal Medicine prior to Surgery, regardless of when in the year

Request a Third Year Schedule Change – M3 schedules are largely fixed. Requests for site changes can be made, and these will be honored if space permits and there is sufficient time for onboarding. Selective changes can be considered if space permits, with approval from the course director and at least one month notice. Changes to the order of clerkships can be considered but are unlikely to be supportable.

Registrar Office Hours – If you’d like to meet with the Registrar to discuss your third-year schedule—whether it’s to maximize your chances of getting preferred clerkships, plan your schedule, or address any personal circumstances—office hours will be available both in person and via Zoom.
