Official Information for Incoming Students, Class of 2013

Welcome to BUSM! The Office of Student Affairs (OSA) looks forward to assisting you on your journey through medical school.

The information below pertains to incoming BU medical students in the Class of 2013. This online information was referenced in the letter sent to all incoming students (letter dated 5/4/09 from Phyllis Carr, M.D., Associate Dean for Student Affairs). Please read the information carefully.

Additional Notes:

  • Class of 2013 White Coat Ceremony: Save the Date!
  • Please bring a lock for DAY ONE. Each BUSM I student will have access to a locker within the main Medical School Building and it will be helpful to keep items there after the initial morning meeting and before you attend the White Coat Ceremony event. The OSA asks that students do not bring purses, backpacks, briefcases, etc. with them to the ceremony.
  • Meals on DAY ONE are for students only. Breakfast will be served at 9 am, and a boxed lunch will be distributed at 11:30 am. The White Coat Ceremony reception (with appetizers) follows the event and will occur around 3:15 pm. Your family and friends who may accompany you to campus on August 10th should make alternative lunch plans.
  • DAY ONE: 11:30 am – 1:15 pm: Students will be able to set up their e-mail accounts, collect syllabi, and collect white coats, among other things.
  • DAY ONE: 1:15 pm SHARP: Students will line up for the White Coat Ceremony procession under the campus clock at 715 Albany Street (directly across from the BU bus stop and Transportation office).

2009 White Coat Ceremony!

  • The Office of Student Affairs provides all first year medical students with a complimentary white coat and distributes these for use on the day of your White Coat Ceremony (Monday, August 10, 2009 at 2 pm).
  • The ordering process for white coats for the Class of 2013 has been concluded! If you are an incoming student and have not yet submitted your white coat size, please contact the Office of Student Affairs, (617) 638-4166.
  • The ceremony’s invitation will be formally mailed to each incoming student by BUSM Alumni Affairs in June 2009. Questions or concerns? Please call the Alumni Affairs office at (617) 638-5150.

Class of 2013 Red Sox Outing!

Get ready for some baseball! Please plan on joining us as the Boston Red Sox challenge the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday, August 29, 2009 at 7:10 pm; all are welcome! Tickets cost $20 each (cash only!) and there is only 1 available per student. All ticket money will be collected on August 13, 2009 between 11 am and 1 pm in the Hiebert Lounge (14th floor of the main Medical School building) as part of the Orientation activity for the day.

Since transportation will not be provided by our office, we recommend using public transportation as Fenway Park is easily accessible from the Kenmore or Fenway T stops (on the Green C and D lines, respectively). There will also be two 2nd year students acting as guides for the event. In order to attend, you must sign up in advance by filling out the RSVP form at the link below. We hope to see you there!
