Joshua Safer MD, honored by Massachusetts Medical Society

Joshua D. Safer, MD, Associate Professor of Medicine in the Section of Endocrinology, has been honored by the Massachusetts Medical Society as the 2017 recipient of the society’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Health Award. This honor recognizes individuals that have made outstanding contributions to LGBT health. Dr. Safer will receive the award at the Society’s LGBT Networking Event on October 26, 2017. Joanne Murabito, MD, ScM named Co-PI of Framingham Heart Study

Joanne Murabito, MD, ScM, became Co-PI of the Framingham Heart Study (FHS) on Jan. 1, 2017. She joins Dr. Vasan Ramachandran’s (FHS Director and PI) team along with Dr. Martin Larson (also Co-PI) at FHS.

Benjamin Wolozin, MD, PhD receives Jack Spivack Excellence in Neurosciences Award 2017

Benjamin Wolozin, MD, PhD, is the recipient of the Jack Spivack Excellence in Neurosciences Award for 2017. The award was established in 2013 to recognize and support the research of an outstanding faculty member conducting clinical or basic research in Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, and other neurological disorders. Wolozin’s discovery of the essential role of RNA binding proteins in the pathophysiology of tauopathies, including Alzheimer’s, has changed the way we understand these diseases.

Joseph P. Mizgerd, ScD receives 2017 Wing Tat Lee award

Joseph P. Mizgerd, ScD, Director of the Pulmonary Center, Professor of Medicine, Microbiology, and Biochemistry, will study Rhinovirus C, a recently discovered respiratory virus that may be an important cause of pneumonia and may exacerbate asthma, especially in children.

Vaishali Sanchorawala Named Amyloidosis Center Director and Skinner Professor

Vaishali Sanchorawala, MD, Professor in the Section of Hematology/Oncology, was appointed Director of the Amyloidosis Center, and named the Wesley and Charlotte Skinner Professor for Research in Amyloidosis.
