Young Investigator Research Grant

Due Date Month: Feb
Purpose: Recognizes the importance of the accomplishments of individuals who are early in their investigative careers in the advancement of our knowledge about the treatment and prevention of kidney disease. To raise awareness and create interest in the challenge of developing better treatments for kidney disease and its complications, the NKF has established a Young Investigator grant program to support clinical research studies addressing important issues for patients with kidney disease. Promising young scientists are encouraged to submit proposals for investigating clinical research questions in nephrology, or closely related fields
Eligibility Criteria: Applications will be considered from individuals who will have completed training in nephrology prior to the start of the grant award and who intend to pursue research directly related to these areas. At the time funding begins (July 1, 2020), the applicant must hold a full-time appointment to a faculty position at a university or an equivalent position as a scientist on the staff of a research-oriented institution, e.g., National Institutes of Health (NIH) or other research organization, in the United States

Lifetime Achievement

Belding H. Scribner Award

Purpose: 
The Belding H. Scribner Award is presented annually to one or more individuals who have made outstanding contributions that have a direct impact on the care of patients with renal disorders or have substantially changed the clinical practice of nephrology. Established in 1995, this award honors the physician who developed the arteriovenous shunt that first made long term hemodialysis for chronic renal failure possible.

Donald W. Seldin Young Investigator Award

Purpose: The Donald W. Seldin Young Investigator Award is presented annually to an individual with an outstanding record of achievement and creativity in basic or patient-oriented research related to the functions and diseases of the kidney. This award is co-sponsored by the American Society of Nephrology and the Council on the Kidney in Cardiovascular Disease of the American Heart Association and is limited to individuals who are age 45 or younger on December 31 of the year during which the award is presented.

Homer W. Smith Award

John P. Peters Award

Established in 1983, this annual award is named for one of the fathers of the discipline of nephrology.

President’s Medal American

Purpose: Society of Nephrology “ASN awards the ASN President’s Medal to individuals who have helped advance ASN’s mission to “”lead the fight against kidney disease by educating health professionals, sharing new knowledge, advancing research, and advocating the highest quality care for patients.”” The medal also recognizes individuals who have made contributions, broadly defined, to the kidney community, and who are unlikely to be eligible for ASN’s other five awards. The Renal Association

Raine Award

Purpose: This prestigious annual award is made to a relatively junior investigator who has not reached consultant grade or senior lecturer for non-clinical scientists and who has made a significant contribution to renal research. The awardee usually makes a presentation of the work which has led up to the award at a Renal Association Conference and will also receive a full article-processing charge waiver to publish one article in BMC Nephrology

Walls Bursaries

Purpose: These bursaries were established in memory of the late Professor John Walls, President of the Renal Association 1995-1998, who died in 2001.
