Student National Medical Association (SNMA)

The Student National Medical Association (SNMA) is the nation’s oldest and largest student organization focused on the needs and concerns of medical student of color.  Membership includes more than 8,000 medical students, premedical students, residents and physicians.  Established in 1964 by medical students from Howard University and Meharry Medical College, the SNMA boasts over 40 years of service to underserved communities and medical students.  SNMA programs are designed to serve the health needs of underserved communities and communities of color.  In addition, the SNMA is dedicated both to ensuring that medical education and services are culturally sensitive to the needs of diverse populations, and to increasing the number of African American, Latino, and other students of color entering and completing medical school.

Health Professional Recruitment and Exposure Program (HPREP)

Mission:

HPREP Service Learning opportunity is sponsored by the Student National Medical Association. HPREP is a nation-wide high school enrichment program aimed at recruiting underrepresented minorities such as African-American, Native American, and Latino high school students into the science and health professions.  Under the leadership of Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine students, HPREP participants are introduced to various topics in interactive group sessions. HPREP student leaders also provide sessions catered to college preparation and skills for success, as well as introductions into the health professions.
