Library
The Alumni Medical Library, located in the Instructional (L) Building, serves the Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine and Graduate Medical Sciences, Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine, and School of Public Health.
It serves as a central education hub on the Medical Campus. Professional staff provide comprehensive information services to students, faculty, and staff, including orientation sessions, curriculum-integrated instruction, and research support.
Holdings
Library holdings include extensive electronic collections comprising 3,600+ current journals, 20,000+ e-books, hundreds of databases and 50+ quality-filtered subject guides. Print holdings include more than 21,000 monographs and 29,000+ volumes of bound print journals. Additionally, library users have access to the University Libraries’ collections of more than 2.4 million physical volumes, over 45,000 current unique serials titles, and 77,000 media titles.
Electronic full-text journal collections include Elsevier ScienceDirect, Wiley InterScience, Springer and Nature Publishing packages. Popular e-book collections and databases include AccessMedicine, ClinicalKey, VisualDx, Web of Science, PubMed/MEDLINE and Embase.
Location
The Library is located on L11, L12 and L13. L12 includes the service desk, print book collection and student study space with public computers, printers and scanners. The L13 Silent Study floor provides expanded student study seats, including reservable group and individual study rooms. The dual-purpose L1101 Testing Center is a 220-seat testing center and study space. L11 also houses computer classrooms and a BUMC IT Help Desk. Seating is available for 790 users throughout the library, including study carrels, individual and group study rooms, public computing areas, and computer classrooms.
Materials not owned by the Alumni Medical Library may be obtained through the Interlibrary Loan Service network, which links Boston University to the National Library of Medicine and to academic and medical libraries around the world. The library also participates in a cooperative agreement with 20 local university and medical center libraries as part of the Boston Library Consortium (BLC).
