Gilchrest to Serve as Editor of Journal of Investigative Dermatology

The Society for Investigative Dermatology (SID) announces the appointment of Barbara A. Gilchrest, MD, as editor of the Journal of Investigative Dermatology (JID). The official term begins June 1, 2012.

Dr. Gilchrest, professor and chair-emeritus of the Department of Dermatology, has a lengthy history with the Journal. It includes frequent service as a reviewer beginning during her years as a dermatology resident continuing to the present. She has contributed many manuscripts, editorials and commentaries to the JID over the years; served as associate editor (1992-1997); and as section editor (1997-2007). Dr. Gilchrest is the author of over 400 scholarly articles, reviews, abstracts, and textbook chapters; and author or editor of eight books.

Dr. Gilchrest has an extensive background in dermatologic research. From 1985 until 2008, she served as professor and chair of Dermatology at BUSM and Dermatologist-in-Chief at the Boston Medical Center, where for many years she directed a large laboratory, the joint BU/Tufts dermatology residency program and a National Institutes of Health (NIH)-sponsored post-doctoral research training program. She will continue to serve as a Professor at BU during her term as Editor.

This appointment is the latest in a series of leadership roles in multiple dermatologic associations for Dr. Gilchrest. She served as president of the SID, (1999-2000), the Women’s Dermatologic Society (1987-1988), and the Association of Professors of Dermatology (2002-2004).
