Ronald L. Ragland, MD ’82 Scholarship Fund

Ronald L. Ragland, MD, noted Neuroradiologist and Scholar, graduated from BU Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, class of 1982, and was the Boston University Martin Luther King, Jr. Fellow, 1978 -1982. He pursued Radiology residency training at the Eastern Virginia Graduate School of Medicine in Norfolk, VA and at the Howard University Medical Center in Washington, DC. He then undertook specialized fellowship training at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in NY, NY, and was retained as Staff Neuroradiologist for two additional years; consultant in Neuroradiology for greater than ten years.

He elected to return to the Greater Boston Area to Found the position of Chief, Neuroradiology as well as Founding the Accredited Neuroradiology Fellowship program at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. He has practiced, taught, and researched within Neuroradiology in New York City, Boston/Worcester and Washington, DC. He is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including being named Teacher of The Year in the University of Massachusetts Medical Center departments of Neurology and Radiology. Additionally, Dr. Ragland has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals.

The Ronald L. Ragland, MD Scholarship Fund

Established in 2005 by Dr. Ragland, this endowed Scholarship’s goal is to support inclusiveness and diversity within the Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine student body. The Scholarship supports medical students from traditionally underrepresented American demographics in their pursuit of Medical Education. Recipients of this scholarship have the following attributes:

  • An innate drive to provide compassionate, humane patient care for all patients; and, specific sensitivity to patients at socioeconomic margins.
  • A record of academic excellence and/or demonstrable potential to achieve at high scholastic levels.
  • A commitment to beneficence in the practice of Medicine which is the moral foundation of the medical profession, primum non nocere.
