Parkinson’s Partners

Parkinson’s disease is the most common movement disorder. Its effects go far beyond motor issues, often leading to embarrassment, depression, and social isolation. Parkinson’s partners seeks to combat this problem while simultaneously exposing medical students first-hand to challenges that uniquely affect individuals with Parkinson’s disease. Parkinson’s partners service-learning group employs a combination of group and one-on-one meetings to create relationships between future physicians and people affected by Parkinson’s in order to achieve the following objectives:

  1. Foster community and social relationships for individuals affected by Parkinson’s disease.
  2. Provide opportunities to improve student empathy and understanding of the issues specifically affecting individuals with chronic illness.
  3. Create avenues for students to interact with neurology and movement disorder faculty.

Mission: Through accomplishing these objective, Parkinson’s partners aim to help give future physicians from all fields a holistic understanding of life with a complex illness while teaching the importance of forming meaningful relationships with patients.
