The National Institutes of Health Clinical Center
The National Institutes of Health Clinical Center, the world’s largest research hospital, continues a proud tradition of training the next generation of clinician-scientists. The Office of Clinical Research Training and Medical Education offers multiple opportunities for qualified students who seek experience in basic, translational, or clinical research.
The NIH Medical Research Scholars Program (MRSP) is a premier, year-long research training program which seeks to attract talented, research-oriented medical, dental, and veterinary students to the NIH intramural campus in Bethesda, Maryland, and its satellite campuses. Centered on a robust investigation experience through a basic, clinical, or translational research project with an experienced mentor that matches their professional interests, the NIH MRSP also provides students with a dedicated curriculum of academic activities featuring world-renowned clinician-scientists, networking opportunities, and professional development workshops. Over 600 alumni strong, the NIH MRSP has a proven history of helping launch the next generation of biomedical researchers into highly successful, impactful careers. The (Future) Doctor Is In | NIH Intramural Research Program offers a glimpse into how this career development program has benefited some of our recent students. Students in their 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year are eligible to apply.
We will begin to accept applications on SEPTEMBER 1st, 2025.
****The application deadline is DECEMBER 1, 2025.****
Our NIH MRSP team will be conducting a virtual information webinar on Thursday, October 9th at 1:00PM EST. Webinar details will be shared in September.
More information can be found at: NIH Medical Research Scholars Program.
If you have any questions or would like additional information about the MRSP, please do not hesitate to contact us at mrsp@mail.nih.gov.
In addition, the NIH Clinical Electives Program offers year-round clinical opportunities for senior medical and dental students to gain clinical research exposure through rotations with services that are responsible for the clinical care of patients enrolled in protocols and clinical trials. Eligibility requirements and application information can be found on our website: NIH Clinical Electives Program.
We look forward to you and your students’ participation.

PROSPERA INSTITUTE HEALTH EQUITY FOR ALL SYMPOSIUM
Sept 27 | 9:00 am – 4:00 | Bethel AME Boston
About the Health Equity for All Symposium: Conferences have been places where academic and healthcare professionals (“experts”) gather to share knowledge and resources and develop solutions for social issues. These conferences are often expensive and exclusive, shutting out the very communities these solutions aim to help. The Health Equity for All (HEFA) Symposium is a public bioethics conference that invites community members, scholars, students, health practitioners, and organizers into critical dialogue on ethics and justice in everyday life. Designed to be low-cost and accessible, HEFA delivers high-quality bioethics education directly to communities, breaking down barriers that too often keep essential conversations out of reach.

BU Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine Selected as Participant in Endocrine Society’s Medical School Engagement Program
Eleven universities awarded spots in inaugural class
- Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine will be one of 11
participating colleges and universities in the Endocrine Society’s 2025–2026 Medical
School Engagement Program class.
- The Endocrine Society launched the Medical School Engagement Program in 2024 to
encourage more medical students to pursue careers in endocrinology. Endocrinologists
are specialists who unravel the mysteries of hormone disorders to care for patients and
cure disease. They treat conditions including diabetes, obesity, thyroid disorders,
osteoporosis, infertility, growth problems, and menopausal symptoms.
Program awardees will receive resources and opportunities to show students the clinical
and intellectual vibrancy of endocrinology.
- During the 2025–2026 academic year, BU and ten other medical schools will receive
support for endocrinology-focused initiatives, including:
– Providing funding to support faculty-led Endocrinology Interest Groups for medical
students highlighting the best of endocrine practice and research
– Supporting two Excellence in Endocrinology Awards at each institution
– Funding attendance at the Society’s annual meeting, ENDO, for students from each participant medical school to participate in Endocrine Mentor Day and meet with Society leadersThe program aims to address the shortage of U.S. medical students entering the
endocrinology field. This shortage is exacerbated by the declining number of practicing
endocrinologists in the United States. More endocrinologists are needed to treat a
rapidly growing number of people with endocrine-related diseases.
- “Timely, ongoing, and engaging mentorship with medical students—starting early, and
continuing through their educational careers—can play a significant role in increasing
interest in a specialty,” said Dr. Robert W. Lash, the Society’s Chief Medical Officer. “Our
goal is to increase medical students’ interest and enthusiasm in endocrinology as their
career choice.”
The Endocrine Society is the world’s oldest and largest organization of scientists
devoted to hormone research and physicians who care for people with hormone-related
conditions. The Society has more than 18,000 members, including scientists, physicians,
educators, nurses and students in 122 countries. For more information, visit: more information

Medicine are committed to serving underserved populations and advancing diversity,
equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA). With this mission in mind, we provide a rich
learning environment that emphasizes health disparities and equitable care. Given that
more than 25% of our medical students pursue internal medicine, we recognize a strong
opportunity to cultivate interest in endocrinology.

Interprofessional Collaboration Opportunity

Interprofessional Collaboration Opportunity!
Hello! My name is Rebecca Butler, and I am a second-year MS-SLP student at the MGH Institute of Health Professions. I’m passionate about interprofessional collaboration and I would love your help to advocate for it. In Boston, we have the amazing opportunity of learning alongside students in so many professions, but we don’t always get to cross-communicate with each other about what we’re learning while we’re learning it. This means that we often first encounter each other in the hospital with either preconceived ideas about what different specialties do or no idea at all. Together with students from schools including Harvard, the MGH Institute of Health Professions, Tufts, Boston College, MCPHS, MassBay, and rehabilitation therapy programs at Boston University, (and hopefully you as well!), we would like to change that. We want to host an informal peer-to-peer collaborative event to help healthcare students across schools in Boston better understand what it is we each study all day. This would give us the space to share insights on our field of study, build relationships with one another, and discuss how we can best serve our patients. If you want to help advocate for building a more collaborative healthcare culture (or if you just want to learn more), please reach out to me at rbutler1@mghihp.edu. We would love to have you!
