The NIH Matchmaker is a powerful tool within NIH RePORTER that helps you identify which Institute, Center, or Office (ICO) may be interested in your research idea. It can also point you to relevant NIH program officials and suggest appropriate study sections for application review.

How to get started

Paste your project abstract or a set of key terms into the search field. The more specific your input, the more accurate your matches will be.

2. Choose What You Want to Explore

  • Similar Projects
    • Find NIH-funded projects related to your research.
    • See which ICOs funded those projects.
    • Review study sections, funding details and award history.
  • Similar Program Officials
    • Identify NIH program officials whose portfolios match your topic.
    • Explore the projects they oversee and their associated ICOs.
    • Access contact information so you can reach out directly.

3. Refine Your Results
Use interactive charts and filters to narrow your results and better understand funding trends and opportunities.
