Biography
Catherine S. Choi is a Clinical Associate Professor of Ophthalmology and Pediatrics who specializes in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus. Her interests include the treatment of adult and pediatric ocular misalignment, double vision, amblyopia, congenital ocular anomalies, lacrimal disorders, and myopia control. Her advanced surgical techniques include the use of adjustable sutures for complex strabismus. Dr. Choi graduated summa cum laude from Washington University in St. Louis with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and earned her MD degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine. She remained at the University of Florida to complete her ophthalmology residency, where she served as Chief Resident, and completed a fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology at the University of Michigan Kellogg Eye Center in 2015.
She is a dedicated faculty advisor to BU Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine students and regularly lectures to ophthalmology residents at Boston Medical Center, as well as to trainees in the Pediatric Optometry Residency at the New England College of Optometry. Dr. Choi is a study investigator for the Pediatric Eye Disease Investigator Group (PEDIG), which is funded by the National Institute of Health and has published landmark findings through multi-center clinical trials pertaining to pediatric eye care. She is currently involved in recruiting patients for clinical studies on novel dichoptic therapies for amblyopia and is also participating in departmental research projects looking at factors that contribute to patients being lost to clinical follow-up as well as using AI tools to enhance patient understanding of diagnoses such as refractive error and amblyopia that require close monitoring in early childhood.
She serves as an Oral Board Examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology and is also active in multiple national committees for the American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (AAPOS). She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Academy of Pediatrics: Section in Ophthalmology, Massachusetts Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons (MSEPS), and New England Ophthalmological Society (NEOS).
