2024 Alumni and Awards Recipients

Louis W. Sullivan, MD’58

Louis W. Sullivan graduated magna cum laude from Morehouse College in 1954, and earned his medical degree, cum laude, from Boston University School of Medicine in 1958. He is certified in internal medicine and hematology, holds a mastership from the American College of Physicians, and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha academic honor societies.

Dr. Sullivan was president of Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM), the only predominantly Black medical school in the U.S. established in the 20th century, for more than two decades. He became the founding dean and director of the Medical Education Program at Morehouse College in 1975, which became The School of Medicine at Morehouse College in 1978.

In 1989 President George H.W. Bush appointed Dr. Sullivan 17th Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, where he led the national efforts to improve the health and health behavior of Americans.

Dr. Sullivan currently is the chairman of the Washington, D.C.-based Sullivan Alliance to Transform the Health Professions.

Christopher D. Andry, MPhil, PhD’94

Christopher D. Andry, MPhil, PhD, serves as chief, pathology & laboratory medicine at Boston Medical Center (BMC), and chair, pathology & laboratory medicine at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine and professor of pathology & laboratory medicine and family medicine.

Dr. Andry’s career at BMC and BU has spanned more than 40 years, during which time he has demonstrated a deep-rooted commitment to and passion for the mission of the BMC Health System, Boston University (BU) and the Medical Campus and the Boston community at large. He is dedicated to education, and the creation of opportunities for students, faculty and staff who have been historically under-represented in science and medicine. Dr. Andry received his PhD in pathology from BU and his bachelor of science and master of philosophy in biological sciences from the University of Lancaster, United Kingdom.

Jennifer Luebke, PhD’90

Waterhouse Professor and Chair of Anatomy & Neurobiology Jennifer Luebke, PhD, has served in many roles at BU, including as principal investigator of the Laboratory of Cellular Neurobiology since 1996, vice-chair of anatomy & neurobiology, and director of the PhD and Vesalius Master’s Programs in Anatomy & Neurobiology. She has served as a member of the Executive Committee of the Boston University Faculty Council, including as chair of the Sustainability Committee, and she was chair of the Supply Chain & Waste Working Group of BU’s Climate Action Plan Taskforce. She also has served on BU’s Council Committee on Graduate Academic Programs and Policies, and she currently serves on the medical school’s Faculty Appointment and Promotions Committee.
Dr. Luebke received her doctorate in anatomy & neurobiology from Boston University School of Medicine and completed postdoctoral training in neurophysiology at Harvard Medical School and Tufts University School of Medicine. She joined our community as an assistant professor of anatomy & neurobiology in 1996.
