Biospecimen Archive Research Core (BARC)
BARC is an IRB-approved, fee-for-service archive of biospecimens operated by the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Various extraneous normal or abnormal specimens removed during medical procedures at the BMC have been procured from Boston Medical Center patients who have given informed consent for scientific research.
The BARC contains samples of frozen tissues stored at -80oC and/or blocked in paraffin. A separate IRB is no longer required to get de-identified samples from the BARC. Investigators interested in acquiring samples from the biospecimen archive must read the BARC Material Use, Data Sharing and Publication Acknowledgement Agreement, before submitting your online BARC Request form to the BARC Oversight Committee to ensure your requested specimens are available for research purposes and your proposed studies are feasible.
To access more information about the service we provide, visit the BARC page on the BUMC Pathology and Laboratory Medicine website.
