Biography

Christopher Andry, MPhil, PhD, was named Chief, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Boston Medical Center (BMC) and Chair, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine (BUSM) effective September 1, 2019. Dr. Andry’s career at BMC and BU has spanned more than 40 years, during which he has demonstrated a deep-rooted commitment to and passion for the mission of the BMC Health System, BUSM and the Medical Campus, Boston University and the Boston community at large. As Chief and Chair, Dr. Andry will bring his clinical expertise and leadership to the role to ensure a high-quality, integrated, academic department that is innovative, well-resourced, and collaborative.

Dr. Andry is a member of the BU-BMC Cancer Center Executive Committee, and liaison to New England Donor Services.

Dr. Andry is well recognized in the field of biospecimen science. In a team-based setting at BU and BMC, he has established evidence-based protocols and standards to ensure curation and distribution of high-quality, well-annotated biospecimens. Dr. Andry has served as the PI on more than $2 million in NCI funded grants and contracts to set standards for the science of biospecimen collection. Dr. Andry has raised the profile of BU in biobanking and provides the expertise for obtaining usable tissue samples for medical campus research faculty. Dr Andry is focused on supporting research and infrastructure to reduce healthcare disparities for underserved populations and has an interest in cancer biology, specifically prostate and breast cancer.

Dr. Andry received his PhD in pathology from BUSM and his bachelor of science and master of philosophy in biological sciences from the University of Lancaster, United Kingdom. He has published and collaborated on more than 50 articles, reviews and medical texts.
