Biography

Ms. Charlene Julien joined Boston University Medical Center’s Department of Family Medicine as a Nurse Practitioner in 2019. Ms. Julien is graduate of the Family Nurse Practitioner Degree program at the MGH Institute of Health Professions. Prior to Family Medicine, Ms. Julien completed the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) NP/PA Hepatology fellowship in the Center for Digestive Disease (CDD) in 2018 where she specialized in viral hepatitis, fatty liver and autoimmuneliver diseases. Ms. Julien also treated patients with general gastrointestinal disorders such as GERD, abdominal pain
and IBS in the CDD since 2016.

Prior to Boston University Medical Center, Ms. Julien earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Government and a Master of Science degree in Political Science-International Relations with a focus on Development from Suffolk University. Ms. Julien studied and worked in El Salvador, Venezuela and Haiti on supporting
community capacity in health care delivery and entrepreneurship as well as learning several methods of producing and maintaining sustainable community-run development projects. These experiences helped shape her career as a Community Health Specialist designing and implementing
the community health assessments 60 towns and cities in Massachusetts under the guidance of the Department of Public Health through Mount Auburn
Hospital. Ms. Julien’s other professional experiences include teaching Politics at Bunker Hill Community College and English as a Second Language in Japan.

Ms. Julien’s clinical and research interests include hepatitis b, NAFLD/NASH, elevated serum transaminases workup, mentorship, global health, improving quality of care and reducing health disparities.

Ms. Julien was previously an Instructor of Gastroenterology/CDD and currently an Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at the Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine.
